Nice Plans for the Weekend

Early coves, our favourite Palma tapas spot, and a gentle way to handle the summer heat — a few easy ideas for the weekend ahead in Southwest Mallorca.

If you've got a free day or two coming up, this is a lovely time to be on the island. A summer weekend in Mallorca doesn't take much planning — but here are a few of our favourite ways to spend one, from an early swim to a long, unhurried dinner in town.

Beaches and coves worth the early start

The best beach days begin before the crowds. If you can manage an early start, you will be rewarded.

  • Illetes — a string of small, pretty coves with clear water, close to Palma and easy to reach.
  • Cala Comtesa — a sheltered, low-key spot just along from Illetes, backed by pines.
  • Portals Nous — a compact family beach, handy for a swim followed by a wander around the marina.
  • Camp de Mar and nearby Cala Fornells — calm, scenic bays towards the southwest tip, good for a slow morning.
  • Es Trenc — the long, wild stretch of white sand and turquoise shallows in the south, worth the drive.
  • Caló des Moro — a tiny, dramatic cove that gets busy; arrive early or not at all.

Each has its own character, and half the fun is finding the one that suits your mood. If you are still getting to know the region, it can help to compare areas across Southwest Mallorca and see which coastline draws you back.

Where to eat and drink

When the sun dips, we always come back to one place: OMBU. With two locations in Palma — one in Santa Catalina, one on Passeig del Born — it is our own favourite for creative tapas made for sharing and properly made craft cocktails. Go with friends, order a little of everything, and settle in.

If you would rather stay by the water, the Puerto Portals marina is lovely for an evening drink with boats in view, and the seafront at Portixol is hard to beat for a relaxed meal watching Palma bay change colour.

A word on the summer heat

Do not fight the Mallorca heat — lean into it. The islanders have this figured out: slow down, take the hottest hours gently, and find some shade around midday.

Save the beach and long walks for morning and late afternoon. And above all, drink plenty of water. It sounds obvious, but it is the single thing that keeps a summer day pleasant rather than exhausting.

Until next weekend

However you spend it — an early cove, a shared table at OMBU, or simply a quiet afternoon out of the sun — we hope it is a good one. If you ever fancy talking about life here, the Molier Estates team is always happy to chat, whether you are settling in or thinking ahead. And if the time feels right to talk to us about selling your property, we are just around the corner in Cala Major.

Enjoy the weekend.
